About Me

My name is Piyush Kumar Singh. I am currently in my final year of the BSMS dual degree program at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Kolkata.

My academic focus is deeply rooted in Theoretical Physics, specifically exploring the mathematical structures that govern the universe at its most fundamental levels. I am pursuing a major in Physics alongside a minor in Mathematics, which provides me with the rigorous analytical tools necessary for my research.

Research Interests

My primary research interests lie at the intersection of Quantum Field Theory (QFT) and String Theory. For my master's thesis, I am exploring the framework of the Unitary Renormalization Group (URG) (1, 2) in the context of QFTs. I am applying this formalism to study various complex states of matter, including bound states in Quantum Electrodynamics (QED) and exotic states of nucleonic matter.

In addition to my thesis work, I am actively investigating Effective Field Theories (EFTs) of Inflation. I am specifically interested in how one can formulate an open quantum field theory of inflation, and I am exploring the cosmological implications and fundamental results of this novel approach.

Within String Theory, I am continuously exploring its vast theoretical landscape. As part of this pursuit, I am currently studying the AdS/CFT correspondence—guided by Horatiu Nastase's comprehensive review—to better understand the holographic principle and gauge/gravity duality.

To support my research with rigorous analytical tools, I am deeply invested in advancing my mathematical foundation. I am currently studying differential geometry and its profound emergence in theoretical physics, heavily inspired by Frederic P. Schuller's lecture series, Geometrical Anatomy of Theoretical Physics.

Personal Interests & Hobbies

When I'm not immersed in theoretical physics, I am an avid gamer. I enjoy exploring story-rich single-player titles like God of War and the GTA series, as well as teaming up in multiplayer games like Call of Duty Mobile and Clash of Clans.

I am also a huge sports enthusiast. You can often find me following cricket closely, or at the table tennis table trying my best to improve my game! Beyond sports and gaming, I have a deep curiosity for Indian politics and history. I follow political news quite regularly, as understanding historical contexts and current geopolitical landscapes is one of my favorite intellectual hobbies outside of academia.
